So You Wanna Pay A Babysitter

It's been a long time since I babysat.

Long enough that I don't remember what I was paid - and I certainly don't think it's relevant anymore.

Tommy is three-and-a-half years old and we've never paid a babysitter. Is this because we're cheapskates? Probably. But also because we have a lot of family. And it never occurred to us that they might like to be compensated for watching the boys.

But this week we had a real live babysitter.

So we paid her at the end of the night.

And as I'm hugging my boys hello and having them gather their shoes and things, I look up and there's Josh pulling money out of his wallet to hand to a responsible young lady and I realize.....

We're old.

Like hiring babysitters old.

Maybe next time we'll even be old enough to arrange for the babysitter ourselves instead of mooching off our friends.

  1. Super weird huh? We've only had a babysitter a handful of times but besides the paying part, the thing that makes me feel old is walking the girls home and feeling like I'm their same age but realizing I'm actually the adult figure and they probably think I'm the same age as their moms haha!

  2. Since moving to Missouri, away from all family, we have come across this scenario a time or two. It does feel a bit bizarre, but we have finally started to get used to it and we also wish there was someone closer that we could mooch off of. It gets expensive to go out for a little peace and quiet!
